Packard 633

United States 1929

It was the most successful year in the history of Packard Motors Company in 1929 since 54,000 cars were sold. This year was also the first year that Packard began using inline 8-cylinder engines. In that year, the company mainly sold four models: 626, 633, 640 and 645. The chrome-plating technology for body accessories began to be applied to Packard cars.

The 633 series belongs to middle level series of Packard in 1929. The main competitor is Cadillac Lasalle. The 633 is equipped with a 5.2L inline 8-cylinder engine with a rated power of 90 horsepower. This engine uses a uniquely designed crankshaft. The new ignition sequence can effectively balance the vibration of the reciprocating movement of the crank connecting rod mechanism. This inline 8-cylinder engine, which is lighter than the V12 engine but has more horsepower and lower fuel consumption, allows Packard to continue its “slender” hood design.
