Pontiac Chieftain

United States 1952

The Chieftain is the first brand new model launched by Pontiac Motor Company after the end of World War II. Although the hydraulic torque-variable automatic transmission, developed by General Motors at that time, increased the sales of Pontiac, the “Torpedo” series, launched before the war, has become obviously outdated in appearance. Therefore “Chieftain” series with the brand new appearance, launched in 1949, was focused on the small car market.
