Mercedes-Benz 220A

Germany 1951

At the first Frankfurt International Auto Show held in April 1951, Daimler-Benz withdrew from the Mercedes-Benz 220 series with chassis code W187. The two representative models of Mercedes-Benz 170 and 220 established the development direction of Daimler-Benz mid-to-high-end sedan after World War II. And these two types marked the beginning of the glorious era of Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

The Mercedes-Benz 220 is a 170-based car series and has been modernized in appearance and configuration. For example, the headlights have been merged from the external stand-alone type of the 170 car series into the fenders. The heater blower, which is standard on the 220 series, also appeared in Mercedes-Benz for the first time. The patented tapered pin safety lock can prevent the door from being easily opened in the event of a collision, ensuring maximum safety for passengers in the vehicle.
