Mercedes-Benz 170D

Germany 1951

The 170D is the first diesel car produced by Mercedes-Benz. It is equipped with the most advanced small four-cylinder engine at the time. This is the first large-scale use of diesel engines in mass production on passenger cars. To some degree, the 170D sets the standard for diesel cars. The fuel consumption of the 170D is lower than the models with the same displacement and specifications by at least 30%, breaking the world record at that time. With very competitive price and superior performance, it quickly stood out and was hailed as the “superior of the top” in the automobile manufacturing industry at that time.
