Cadillac Eldorado

United States 1959

The Cadillac “El Dorado” series, launched in 1953, is called the “Lost Golden Empire” because its name comes from the “lost Golden Kingdom” sought by explorers. Those many luxury configurations including leather trim, built-in radio, electric heating system, windshield washer, hydraulic automatic transmission, power steering, rear-wheel white-wall tires and nearly $ 8,000 benchmark price made it become GM and even Detroit production the most luxurious car. The 1959 model can be regarded as the most representative model of the “El Dorado” series. The huge and high tail fin with double bullet tail lights perfectly shows the impact of the rapid progress of aerospace technology at that time on car design.
